VINE COUNSELLING SERVICES is a charity based in Congresbury offering affordable (donation based) professional counselling to people in the community who need help to cope with anxiety, stress, bereavement, depression, bullying, trauma, abuse, family problems. Mental health matters and we can offer confidential one to one counselling with qualified Counsellors and those on placement through our local colleges/universities. We offer both long and short term counselling and our work is guided by the individual needs of each client. We operate in a climate of acceptance and respect and value every person regardless of belief. Privacy and confidentiality is an essential part of what we offer.
Since 20th March, Vine has been unable to offer face to face counselling appointments due to the restrictions imposed by the Government during the Coronavirus pandemic. We remain open, however, and have developed an effective telephone/video service both for our existing clients and new clients. Our Board of Trustees would like to take the opportunity to thank the volunteer Counsellor team for their continuing support, commitment and willingness to offer their time to maintain our service.
With regards to our plans to resume a face to face service, we are following the Government advice regarding
working from home where possible but also BACP guidance and advice. The current advice is to continue to work remotely with clients wherever possible. However, there are circumstances where working remotely is not an option. We are currently reviewing this guidance and will be carrying out the necessary risk assessments in due course. The Board of Trustees at Vine are meeting regularly via Zoom and once it is considered appropriate to resume any face to face work and the necessary risk assessment and preparations have been made for a gradual return, this information will be provided on the website. We do, however, anticipate that this will not be until September at the earliest.
We were scheduled to hold a Student Open Morning on 20th May 2020 and it was, of course, necessary to postpone this. A date has not yet been fixed for this event but we envisage this will be later in the Autumn.
CORONAVIRUS APPEAL: HELP US TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE OUR SERVICE NOW AND WHEN FACE TO FACE COUNSELLING RESUMES
In these unchartered waters, people in our community are struggling and need our services to continue so that we can support them. We are currently unable to fundraise and donations are greatly reduced, therefore, we need help. IF YOU CAN DONATE something, however small, at this difficult time for small charities such as ours, please do to the VirginMoney link below. It really will make a difference.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS It is clear that protecting our mental health is going to be central to us coping with and recovering from the Coronavirus pandemic - with the psychological and social impacts likely to outlast the physical symptoms of the virus. At Vine Counselling Services we will do all we can to provide the maximum number of counselling appointments to support people in the community. One of our clients has recently emailed after receiving video counselling for a number of weeks - he continues with appointments each week but said in his email, "This service is proving to be a life-line for me as I try to rebuild my mental health ... thank you so much."
Message from Rachel Mason - new Patron of Vine, former client and creator of the Unlock Your Talent Festival which recently raised funds for Vine's work.
I wanted to share a picture I made which reflects how I feel about my mental health before I had counselling from Vine Counselling Services. It felt like I was breaking apart and that pieces of my sanity were falling away leaving me incomplete and afraid that I would never feel whole again. Without the support of Vine Counselling Services I wouldn’t have survived this time and wouldn’t be here today.
We are really excited that Rachel has agreed to be the Patron of the charity and will be working with her on various projects in the coming months.....
Thank you to everyone who entered this competition, judged, designed posters, worked on the website, advertised, donated prizes, sorted through entries and helped raise nearly £3000 for the work of Vine Counselling Services. We hope to post some of the winners' entries on the website very soon.
It can sometimes feel like we are not doing enough but our aim is to use our resources to do as much as we can, whilst planning for the future and expansion of our service. We continue to remember that "Helping one person might not change the whole world but it could change the world for one person". Every individual matters and if you are looking for help, please do not hesitate to call us. Thank you so much. Please contact Liz Linnitt by email on firstname.lastname@example.org.
APPEAL FOR COUNSELLORS TO JOIN THE TEAM:
If you are a qualified Counsellor and feel you could offer a few hours per week on a voluntary basis, we would really love to hear from you. We have a waiting list of clients who need appointments and anticipate an increase in the number of enquiries we will receive in the coming weeks/months. A proportion of your supervision will be covered together with insurance and some training and travel expenses.

KERRY'S FAMILY HEAD SHAVE
Kerry, Adam and Soraya raised over £580 for our work by bravely shaving their heads on 10th May 2020!!!
Kerry says "Vine do an amazing job, providing low cost counselling to people in North Somerset who might not otherwise be able to access a counselling service. Like a lot of charities, their funding has dropped since lockdown began and so we want to help in our small way."
Go to https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/family-head-shave if you would still like to donate through their link!
Thank you to Kerry, Adam and Soraya from all of the Vine team.
